Comments: The last act of “The Naked Time” takes it from a fairly standard episode to something special. As Scotty panics at not being able to save the Enterprise from a plummeting orbit, Kirk calmly talks him through the problem until they come up with a working theory for a solution. Kirk then manages to pull Spock out of the psychological effects of a virus plaguing the crew, before succumbing to the virus himself and revealing the true nature of his relationship with his ship.

Fun Trivia

“The Naked Time” was originally intended as the first half of a two-part episode. Though that plan was ultimately dropped, the second half of the story became “Tomorrow Is Yesterday” later in the first season.
