I don’t really mean to complain

It feels like it’s been raining for twenty days and twenty nights here, so it’s kind of put me in a funk. To help turn things around, below is my personal ranking of the rain songs that Elvis released during his lifetime.

#1 Kentucky Rain (1969)
Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits, Volume 1

#2 Early Morning Rain (1971)
Elvis Now

#3 All I Needed Was The Rain (1967)
Singer Presents Elvis Singing Flaming Star And Others

#4 When It Rains, It Really Pours (1957)
Elvis For Everyone

#5 Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain (1976)
From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee

Something I noticed when ranking these songs is that all of them are great! None of his rain songs are clunkers.

Until next time, try to stay dry, folks.

P.S.: I didn’t include “rainbow” songs, as that is a slightly different weather phenomenon. We’ll save those for another list.

  1. I remember reading an article in the Swedish fan club magazine some 20 years ago, listing Elvis songs about rain. It ended something like this: “Well, that’s all the songs with rain in the title. I guess “Mystery T-rain” would be pushing it to far.”

Anyway, I agree, great songs all of them!

    • Funny, I’ve never read the Swedish fan club magazine, but I almost used a similar joke in the above. It was something like… “This message brought to you by The Mystery T-rain Elvis Blog.” I deleted it just prior to publishing, though. Even blogs have outtakes. (We intentionally hold stuff back to make visitors have to re-read the same stuff again.)

I think I’ll have to play the Sun sessions today – see if that will vanquish the rain.

  2. All excellent songs Troy! I will trade places with you, I’m in Arizona, and it’s 110 outside as I write this, send some rain my way!! Take care! Stay dry!! TCB…..!!!

    • You can definitely have some of this rain. I just gotta figure out how to ship it to you.

I guess you have to come up with an “Elvis’ Greatest Drought Songs” list… or something along those lines…

By the way, I did see some sunshine on the way home today, YES! Those Sun records did the trick.

      • Well, the SUN dance worked, but not for long. I just ran out to do a quick errand for my wife. I wore only a t-shirt and jeans because I am, you see, actually a pretty stupid guy. As I got to the store, the sky decided to open up again. I’ve got gallons of rain for you now, George. I’m drenched. Ah, well, it could be worse. It could be 110 degrees F outside!
