“They became the best of the best, the top guns”

It has been 17 years since Lucasfilm Limited produced a movie not involving Star Wars or Indiana Jones. On Friday, they released a trailer for Red Tails – with no Dr. Jones or R2-D2 to be found.

Directed by Anthony Hemingway, Red Tails dramatizes the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American pilots for the US Army Air Corps during World War II. The film stars Cuba Gooding, Jr. Check out the Red Tails trailer below.

“They became the best of the best, the top guns,” says executive producer George Lucas. “It is an honor to bring to the screen a story inspired by their heroics” (“Lucasfilm’s Red Tails Will Take Flight on January 20, 2012″ — StarWars.com).

The Tuskegee Airmen are already legendary, so if Red Tails lives up to the preview, it should be a fantastic movie.

Red Tails hits US theaters on January 20, 2012.
