“If I can dream of a warmer sun, where hope keeps shining on everyone, tell me why won’t that sun appear?”
–From “If I Can Dream,” Elvis Presley song, 1968 (written by W. Earl Brown)
Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love decking the halls, blasting Christmas music, and just being merry! Though we all lose sight of this at times, the best way to keep Christmas is to spend time with those we love – family and friends.
Christmas is also a time to remember those less fortunate than us. No matter your circumstance, I submit there are always others in a worse situation. While it is important to remember those in need throughout the year, there is something special about the magic of Christmas – a gentle reminder to help those we can.
Suppose everyone made that effort, what would our world be like? We don’t have to suppose, though. This doesn’t have to be a distant, unachievable dream. We can all help one another on this journey, starting right now.
You can begin by donating time, money, or both to worthy organizations. As suggestions, I have listed some below, but whether you choose to help these organizations or others that are closer to your community or heart, the main thing to remember is to help however you can.
If you are in bad situation, you may very well find that helping others will give you a new perspective and change your life.
· The American Humane Association
· The Make-A-Wish Foundation
· The Victory Junction Gang Camp
· The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation
· Alzheimer’s Association
· American Cancer Society
· Ways to show support for America’s troops
“If I can dream of a better land, where all my brothers walk hand-in-hand, tell me why can’t my dream come true?”
