Star Trek XI movie news roundup, 11/16/2007

Just a couple of new items this week on Star Trek XI, courtesy of StarTrek.com. Chris Hemsworth has signed aboard to play George Kirk, father of James Tiberius. Hemsworth is only 24, so the role will likely be part of a flashback or time travel sequence.

Hemsworth will be the first actor to portray the elder Kirk. The character has appeared prominently in a number of novels, including Final Frontier and Best Destiny by Diane Carey. No word yet on whether James’ brother, George Samuel, will appear. In addition to his well-known role, William Shatner portrayed Sam Kirk briefly in “Operation: Annihilate!”

Also joining the cast of the film, which is currently in production until March, is Clifton Collins, Jr. Collins will play Ayel, a villain.
