Rumors have been flying on the Internet for weeks, but Variety finally confirmed yesterday that Warner Brothers has signed Bryan Singer to produce and direct a sequel to this year’s Superman Returns.
The sequel, which has no script or budget yet, is tentatively scheduled for a summer 2009 release.
Superman Returns recently crossed the $200 million mark in US ticket sales, and has made $391 million worldwide.
According to Variety, Warner already has an option on star Brandon Routh for the sequel.
In July, Singer noted that he envisioned the sequel to be more action-oriented than its predecessor.
Superman Returns is expected to hit DVD on November 28.
