It will not take much of a movie to top 1998’s Star Trek: Insurrection, the worst Trek movie ever produced. Indeed, Insurrection lowered the bar to such a degree that Patrick Stewart (Picard) and Jonathan Frakes (Riker) could chat about the weather for two hours on the holodeck in Star Trek Nemesis and it would make for a better film than Insurrection.
A movie that is only marginally better than Insurrection will certainly kill the Trek film franchise, though. While popular, it cannot withstand two bombs in a row.
Judging from the preview trailer released last week, it appears both Paramount and Trek producer Rick Berman are aware of this as well.
The trailer for Star Trek Nemesis is the best-produced Trek preview since 1991 and it offers hope that maybe…just maybe…the Next Generation gang finally got it right.
Or are we simply being fooled once again?
